Founded in 2009, the company was later incorporated in 2014. Blue Roo Theatre Company Inc. is a not for profit independent production company. We provide an important link between the disability community, the performing arts sector and the broader community, in that all performers in our productions have a disability.
We use an action learning process to help the performers develop their movement skills, stage skills, problem-solving skills and confidence. An action learning approach is very different from a "one size fits all" approach. Each Blue Roo production is unique with an original script, original music and original costumes.
Under the guidance of highly experienced theatre coaches, the performers themselves use their curiosity and imagination to develop teamwork, bringing their different abilities together to create highly effective and heart-warming public performances.
Developing a range of performing arts products which cater to the diverse needs of performers with disability e.g. full-scale production, street theatre
Partnering with a variety of agencies, which support people with disability
Sourcing funding and sponsorship opportunities to create and deliver performing arts products and maintain the sustainability of the production company
Mentoring performers to achieve their artistic goals
Continuously reviewing our performing arts products to ensure they are consistent with our vision and purpose
Fostering a creative culture that is respectful, supportive and challenging
The performers for Blue Roo Theatre Company Inc. productions come through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider Centacare. Our other projects include work with nursing homes, local schools and community groups. All of these projects use the performing arts to enable physical and mental capacity through the learning process. These projects conclude with participants partaking in performances for targeted community audiences.
