Management Committee

The Blue Roo Management Committee comprises of members who share a diverse range of professional skills. Committee members have been deliberately recruited with a focus on gathering skills and expertise in drama, governance, risk management, HR management, legal, financial management, strategic planning and program management and have a passion for enabling people. This is a committee of volunteers dedicated to our community.

President

Deborah Walker

BSoc Wk, BA

With experience in Queensland’s vocational education and training sector, Deborah trained in her youth in speech and drama. Her strengths with people, change and program management, corporate governance and policy implementation are recognised within the public sector where she held senior and executive level positions.

A move to the private sector in 2017 provided Deborah with new challenges and opportunities while meeting her passion of delivering authentic and quality products and services. This passion has carried over in her commitment to the success of Blue Roo Theatre Company where she is overseeing processes essential to the future stability and growth potential within Blue Roo.

Tanya Fomin

BVoc Ed (Hon), Adv Dip Career Guide      

Tanya is a founding committee member of Blue Roo. Tanya’s expertise is in the area of vocational education and training with a literacy major. She has worked in roles ranging from teaching, student support, project work and other programs within Technical and Further Education institutions.

Tanya has a history as a Disability Support Officer and has worked in the area of community literacy. Her longstanding association with Blue Roo means she has a large network of contacts in the Arts.

Dale Johnson

BEd Stud, Dip Teach, Cert IV Train & Assess, JP (Qual)

Dale has three passions in life with firm commitments to live theatre; music and comedy; excellence in teaching and advocacy for her husband’s  courage, ability and independence after suffering a severe stroke. She is dedicated to supporting the day-to-day resilience of the families of stroke and brain injury sufferers.

Dale has taught drama and theatre to children and young adults, literacy, numeracy and communication skills to adults and is a nationally published researcher. She brings a diverse range of skills, experience and networks to Blue Roo. She cites her greatest achievement in life as being able to ‘laugh loudly on a whimsy’ most days.

Cheryl-Anne Laird

BA (Psych,  Hon), GDip IR, MBA, B Law (Hon)

Cheryl-Anne has an enviable reputation as a leading human resources and industrial relations consultant to clients in both the private and public sectors. She has built her success on forming long term partnerships with her clients and becoming a trusted expert in her field.

Cheryl-Anne has a somewhat unique mix of tertiary qualifications including law and psychology which has allowed her to develop a specialist expertise in assisting clients navigate the myriad of challenges which arise when employment and mental health issues combine. It was for these skills and experience as well as her commitment to and passion for social justice issues which lead to Cheryl-Anne’s inclusion as a committee member.

Stewart Thompson

Dip Arts (Disability)

Stewart represents our partner, Centacare. He has been employed by them for more than 30 years. He currently is the Director Client Services.

Stewart has extensive experience within the disability sector which has allowed him to take a strong advocacy role with significant experience in lobbying at all levels of government and in the community to influence change and policy decisions.

He continues to focus on ensuring that people have choice, independence and receive the care and support they need to enable them to maximize opportunities and participate in community life.

Genevieve Wells

BSoc Wk

Genevieve’s true passion lies with the community sector, working with people living with severe and persistent mental illness. Her current role includes supporting people to navigate and gain access to the NDIS system, advocating for those deemed ineligible to receive support packages and assisting individuals to implement their NDIS plans.

Her area of interest is in personality disorders and dissociative identity disorders. Genevieve recognises that she is privileged to work to bring out positive change in people’s lives. She draws inspiration for the people with whom she works who are resilient and persevering, often in the face of enormous obstacles.

The Blue Roo artistic team is a passionate group of skilled individuals within the performing arts arena. While working with the performers to develop skills needed to participate in this creative environment, they are motivated to collaborate with and share performer stories to enrich lives.

Artistic Director

Clark Crystal

Clark is the Artistic Director and founder of Blue Roo Theatre Company. He is a playwright, performer, applied theatre practitioner and theatre educator, with over 36 years of continuous professional experience, 19 years internationally.

Between 1988-1990 he studied theatre in Paris with the world renowned Phillippe Gaulier. This included the acting of styles of play, tragedy, melodrama, bouffon, clown, melodrama and mask. Also in direction, Shakespeare and Chekov.

Clark is an Adjunct Lecturer at Griffith University, Brisbane and invited artist to director theatre festivals for the International School’s Theatre Association.

Brian Lucas

MChor, Grad Dip Chor, Assoc Dip Perf Arts, Cert IV Train & Assess

Brian is a Brisbane-based performer, choreographer, director, teacher, writer and arts-advocate whose career spans nearly 40 years. Trained in both dance and theatre, he has a national reputation for creating and performing provocative, powerful and intelligent works that bridge the divide between the two forms. Since 1995, he has created a number of critically and publicly acclaimed full-length solo works.

Brian has worked with many of Australia’s and the world’s most well-known performance-makers and presenters.

Luke Scott

Luke brings over 25 years of experience in composition, coupled with over 10 years of working within the disability sector.

Luke’s high energy personality is counterpoint to his ability to relate with the actors, guiding them to reach beyond their potential musically. With an ability to think outside the box, Luke is determined to make the Blue Roo Theatre Company Inc. musical experience as inclusive as possible for all participants.

Our administrative team is attuned to the operational needs of the company and are dedicated to the community with whom we collaborate.

Administration Officer

Holly Leeson

Holly has primarily worked with youth (aged 12 to 25) communities and with people in both flexible education and drug and alcohol rehabilitative settings. She has experience in dance, music and visual art forms to re-engage at risk people with their communities and support networks through culturally developmental frameworks.

Holly is a widely experienced performer. Having trained in dance and voice from a young age. She has since performed in and choreographed for companies and community productions in South East Queensland.

Book Keeper

Jenny Delgado

Assoc Dip Bus, Cert Bus, AD Sc (High Hon)

Jenny has been providing professional bookkeeping and administrative support services to corporate and privately owned, customer-centric businesses for the last 12 years, encompassing the IT, Construction, Legal, Business Coaching, Recruitment and Media sectors.

In addition to her bookkeeping expertise, Jenny’s key skills include process improvement, project support and co-ordination, tender and proposal writing, database maintenance and recruitment.  Jenny’s administrative, organizational, and customer service skills are outstanding and this combined with her attention to detail, strong work ethic and customer focus make her an asset to the Blue Roo team.

The performers for Blue Roo Theatre Company Inc productions are provided through collaboration with our partner Centacare. Each brings their particular energy to the stage, providing joy to audiences and fellow performers.

Ben Hawton

Ben has been with Blue Roo since 2008.

Brendan Davey

Blue Roo productions is proud to work alongside Brendan’s ever developing artistry. He joined the Company in 2008.

Brigid Coote

Brigid is a seasoned veteran in Blue Roo, having performed in all its full productions.

Credits include Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Brigid has also displayed leadership and directiorial aptitude in the Artist in Residence program held at Sunnybank Special Shcool (2017).

Caitlin Manktelow

Caitlin is a fresh face, who made her Blue Roo production debut in Bulimba Opera (2015). Caitlin has since been involved in Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Caitlin was lead vocalist in A Royal Rhapsody at Clifford Park Special School (2016). Her beautiful singing voice is unforgettable and a welcome addition to performances.

Caitlin was also afforded the opportunity to audition for Queensland Opera following Blue Roo’s involvement with the Company. 

Chris Gaunt

Chris joined Blue Roo in 2014 where he performed in Song Circle. He has since appeared in Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Chris’ charismatic energy elevates Blue Roo productions to a level of sheer joy and excitement. 

Dan Schoch

Dan brings his own unique personality to every Blue Roo production. Credits include Lilly Pilly Letters (2009), Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2015), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Daniel Tomlinson

Daniel is another fresh face in Blue Roo productions making his first appearance in 2016 in Orpheus and Euridice. Other credits include performing in the company shows Now (2017), Sea (2018) which was performed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019). Daniel is also part of the touring troupe of Commedia Dell’ Arte.

Daniel is the 2018 Winner of the ‘Jamie Carrigan Award’, an inhouse award celebrating excellence in dramatic arts.

David Baird

David has been a long time member of Blue Roo performing in several main stage performances including; The Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night At the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), The Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), NOW (2017), Sea (2018) and most recently, Around (2019).

David was also a member of the Melodrama ensemble.

Ella Phillips

Ella joined Blue Roo Theatre Company in early 2019 as a member of the Commedia Dell’ Arte touring troupe.

In a short amount of time she had overcome her performance anxiety and was a valuable contributor to the ensembles annual tour.

Emma Gordon-Smith

Being a part of Blue Roo since its inception, Wmma has been involved in all major projections and developed as a performer and blossomed into a confident supporting lead actress.

Credits include Lilly Pilly Letters (2009), Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018).

Emma is also a past winner for the 'Jamie Carrigan Award'. 

James Loakes

2019 was James’ first year with Blue Roo Theatre Company.

James enjoyed his time acting and singing as the stubborn lead character, Ted Fogg, in the Company’s major production Around.

James is an amazing talent that continues to grow and inspire.

Jamie Savage

Jamie has been a part of Blue Roo productions since 2011 where he started his theatre journey in Last Night at the Grand. Further credits include Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Jessie Atkinson

2019 was Jessie's first year with Blue Roo Theatre Company. Performing with the main company ensemble in Around, Jessie enjoyed the opportunity to bring his love of playing the ukulele to the stage, as the French busker.

Jessie's development as an actor is immediate and consistently evolving.

Joel Dodemont

Joel is a seasoned Blue Roo performer, having been involved in productions since 2009’s Lilly Pilly Letters. Further credits include Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Joel is also part of the Commedia Dell’ Arte touring troupe. 

Justin Moran

Justin has been involved with Commedia Dell' Arte since 2015.

He has toured with Blue Roo and performed in Hotel Pantelone as the leading character for a number of different audiences including nursing homes, countless schools and regular busking in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall. 

Kylie Deane

Kylie performed originally with Blue Roo Theatre Company as a supporting lead character in Darcy O and The Browbeat Factory before leaving the Company the following year. The lure of the stage was too hard to resist and in 2019 Kylie returned to Blue Roo with a lead role in Around.

Laura Solomon

Laura has been with Blue Roo since 2008.

Credits include Lilly Pilly Letters (2009), Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Laura was the recipient of the 2019 'Jamie Carrigan Award' for her outstanding contribution to Around as both an actress and director. 

Lincoln Inger

Lincoln had his first brush with the mainstage in 2018 as he made his debut in Blue Roo’s major production of Time To Go (2018) and has since performed in Around (2019).

His keeness to pursue a career in the performing arts is matched by his effervescent personality. 

Lyndal Devantier

Lyndal is a veteran performer of Blue Roo.

Mainstage acting credits include Lilly Pilly Letters (2009), Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014) and Time To Go (2019).

Lydall’s orchestral contributions and credits include Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), NOW (2017) and Sea (2019).

Lyndal is now primarily involved in the Commedia Dell' Arte troupe.

Marisa Rouillon

Marisa has been with Blue Roo Theatre Company since 2008.

Credits include Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011). Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Her interest and experience in Auslan provides a valuable contribution to the inclusivity of the company.

Marisa is also part of the Commedia Dell’ Arte touring troupe. 

Mark Fraser

Mark is a longstanding performer in Blue Roo productions.

Credits include Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Mark’s focus and dedication to his roles is an inspiration to all. 

Mary Morris

Mary is an experienced performer in Blue Roo productions, having performed in seven major productions.

Credits include Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Mary’s personality and charisma shines through in all of her performances and makes her a pleasure to watch. 

Nicholas Margan

Nick joined Blue Roo in 2015 as a fanatical devotee to the dramatic arts and all things theatrically musical. His pursuit to become a world famous broadway star makes him a truly unique performer.

His production credits include Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Nick is also part of the Melodrama Ensemble. 

Nicole 'Pal' Theodoros

Nicole began her journey in Blue Roo productions in 2016.

She has since lent her theatrical prowess to Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Sea (2018) and Time To Go (2018) as well as showcasing her rap ability in NOW (2017) and Around (2019).

She is also a strong performer in the Commedia Dell’ Arte touring troupe.

Tanya Bartlett

Tanya has been part of Blue Roo since 2008.

Credits include Sugar Cane Ball (2010), Last Night at the Grand (2011), Flood Country (2012), Darcy O and the Browbeat Factory (2013), Song Circle (2014), Bulimba Opera (2015), Orpheus and Eurydice (2016), Now (2017), Sea (2018), Time To Go (2018) and Around (2019).

Tanya is a strong Commedia Dell' Arte performer.
